Here are the steps for changing it using windows,

  1. Before you proceed, make sure that all Office Applications are closed.
  2. Open cmd and Run it as an Administrator.
  3. Locate the location of the ospp.vbs
  4. Normal location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16 (can be seen on the picture) if they have a 32-bit Office installed.
  5. Location for 64-bit Office is normally under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16.
  6. Once location has been determined, run the following command on cmd.
  7. Type in cd (path location).
  8. Once they are already on the correct path, just run cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus
  9. On the first image of cmd, you can see that it showed an installed product key “WB222”.
  10. Do take note that there are instances that more than 1 product key is installed so you need to check all the result and take down all the product keys.
  11. Once you have all the product key, you can now proceed on running the second command.
  12. Type in cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey: (Last 5 of installed product key) and hit Enter.
  13. On the second image of cmd, you can see that product key was successfully uninstalled.
  14. If they have multiple product keys installed, you need to remove all of them.
  15. After product key is removed, open up Control Panel – Credential Manager – Windows Credential.
  16. Remove all credentials that has “Microsoft Office”.

After doing the previous steps, you need to back-track and make sure that everything is clean.

  1. On the cmd, try running the dstatus again to verify that no installed product keys are being detected seen on the first image.
  2. Under Work/School Account, make sure no account is connected (troubleshooting will be different if it is connected to AD as we need to bypass it instead of disconnecting).
  3. Re-open Credential Manager and verify that everything is clean.

You can now proceed on re-activating Office by opening any Office Application.

Go to File – Account – Sign In.

Login the account that has the license.

Office should now activate properly.
